How Kosher Soft Pretzels Are Made

We all love those frozen pretzels that you throw in microwave then eat with a healthy dose of mustard – but what about real soft pretzels made fresh? It turns out that they can easily be made with pizza dough. The trick in this case is making the pretzel part fast – sort of like the way that those people fold t-shirts in two seconds flat. So of course we filmed it with a high-frame-rate camera so that we could slow it down and share with you all how it is done! Enjoy!

How To Prepare Kosher Israeli Falafel

Ah, Falafel. One of the most common ethnic foods synonymous with Israeli culture. Every neighborhood in Jerusalem seems to have at least one ‘falafel stop’ where locals either gather over lunch or run by and take a quick portion of the delicious fried balls to go. No matter if you like it without ‘harif’ (hot & spicy) or ‘im chips’ (french fries) – enjoy this video with hummus, tehina, and Israeli salad!

How J2 – Kosher Jerusalem Pizza is Made

We went to one of the few places in Jerusalem that people claim make “real american” pizza – J2 in Har Nof. The irony of the name aside, we actually did order pizza and paid for it. Being that we had a few slices, which happen to be as good as people say they are, we waited around for the next customer to finish off the display slices so that we could have a shot at them making a fresh pie. And while we can not figure out who eats pizza with onion tune topping and black olives (actually we do, but it we had to cut her out of the video) – it was very cool to watch them make a pie at the famed Yerushalmi pizzeria.

One pizza pie and 14 rolls of garlic bread were damaged in the making of this video 🙁

How Kosher Shawarma is Prepared

We scoured the finest and greasiest establishments in town to document all the tricks of how a perfect shawarma is made. While most place will offer the lamb, turkey, or beef varieties of meat, the ethnically correct type of meat to use is lamb. It used to be that one could only get shawarma in a pita or laffa, nowadays one can also get it plain on a plate or in many cases as a baguette sandwich.
